History

The Weld County Builders Association, Inc. (WCBA) was incorporated in April of 1956 by a group of local businessmen as a not for profit corporation with the primary objective to promote, protect and improve building conditions in Weld County.  The association also had, as its original goals, to promote fair and uniform methods of practice in the industry, to cultivate a proper understanding of new and better building materials and practices, promote methods of education and employee training and assure members promoted quality and honesty throughout the industry.  Several very influential members of the local community have been involved in the association.

Throughout the years the Weld County Builders Association has been involved with local governments, communities and organizations to promote its core objectives and values.  A large part of that focus has been devoted to giving back to the community.  This includes working with such organizations as the Habitat for Humanity association.  The WCBA has completed several Habitat projects over the years with the most notable being the rebuilding of the Landin residence, after the fire that severely damaged the structure, with all of the work being managed and funded by donations from members of the association.  The Landin family was able to move into their new home on time even after a several week delay due to the fire.  The full article can by clicking here.

To also help the local communities, the WCBA partnered with the City of Greeley building inspection department and the Union Colony Fire Department to develop “No Playing” construction site signs in English and Spanish that are available to all builders and developers at no charge.  Click here for the English version of the sign.  Click here for the Spanish version of the sign. This shows the WCBA’s commitment to promote safety and responsibility to the local community members.

In December of 2006, the association sponsored a toy drive to support Iraqi children for the 169th Fires Brigade, Colorado Army National Guard during their deployment during Operation Iraqi Freedom.  The association raised over $ 1,000.00 in cash and also donated several toys and sports equipment to help this cause. The WCBA has also worked with the various local governments to represent the local building industry in changes to the local development, zoning and building codes.  The association has also been at the forefront of educating the general public on the affects of proposed legislation to the industry and to the local economy.  Some past examples of these proposed amendments included the controlled growth amendments and the proposed changes to the liability insurance industry that would have both had a dramatic impact on the local construction market.

The association has had members that have participated in several local government committees, to represent the building industry, that include:

The Weld County building trades advisory committee

The City of Greeley Infrastructure funding task force

The builders semi-annual breakfast with the City of Greeley mayor

Monthly meetings with the City of Greeley staff

The association has sponsored training that has included such topics as jobsite safety, use of new technologies and the requirements of the new building and energy codes as part of its mission to provide construction related continuing education to its members.

The association has also sponsored several types of fun activities for its members over the years.  Most of the older members remember the picnic and boating activities of the 1980’s as some of the best times that they had in the association.  The association still sponsors an annual Christmas Party which has become one of the longest running WCBA traditions still around.

Notable speakers at the monthly meetings have included Joe Glenn, former University of Northern Colorado football coach and Charlie Monfort, General Manager & Part Owner of the Colorado Rockies baseball team.  In addition, several notable comedians have provided entertainment at the associations monthly meetings to include Sam Adams (not the beer).

Since 1956, the Weld County Builders Association has been a professional organization that has represented the building industry and supported the local community.  We are proud of our lineage and history and we look forward to a bright and strong future for the building industry.
